Homemade Cleaning Products

In our last blog, we gave you an overview on how to keep all different flooring types looking their best. For those of you that believe in being “green” or saving money by making cleaning products at home, we are going to share with you a few DIY floor cleaner recipes!

Tile and Grout Cleaner:

Put 7 cups of warm water into a gallon container. Add to it 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/3 cup household ammonia and 1/4 cup white vinegar. Seal your container and shake. To use your cleaner, fill a spray bottle, spray onto your tile/grout and then wipe it away with a damp cloth or sponge.

Carpet Cleaner:

Take two spray bottles, one filled with 5 parts water and 1 part vinegar, the second filled with 5 parts water and 1 part non-sudsy ammonia. Saturate the stain with the vinegar solution and let it soak in for a few minutes. Then blot it thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. You will then spray it with the ammonia solution. Repeat this until the stain is gone.

Laminate Cleaner:

This recipe couldn’t be easier! Simply mix equal parts of vinegar, water and alcohol, then add a couple drops of dish soap. You now have cleaner for your laminate flooring! Just spray it on and wipe it up and you have shiny, streak-free floors.

Hardwood Cleaner:

In order to create your own cleaner for hardwood, just mix 1 gallon of warm water with 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 TBS castile soap. It is important to only damp mop with this recipe because saturating the floor may cause warping of the surface. For this and more hardwood floor recipes, see www.tipnut.com/wood-floors/
